There is the competition, there is the
strife, there is the war of the mind, in the mind. There is this feeling of
wanting to belong, wanting to be among the ones in vogue. The question of
compromising and standards reduction comes in. how can I be like him? How can I
sing like her? The truth remains that there is nothing wrong with having someone
to look up to as a mentor of even as a role model but nonetheless, this should
not build any room for compromise. Who am I talking to? What am I trying to
say?

I’m actually talking to the new and
upcoming musicians like me, . Those trying to break new grounds in the
entertainment industry. Its “true” Nigeria is a tough place and it’s also
“true” that the entertainment industry is domineered by a particular style of
doing things. Do you want to know what is really true? What is really true is
that around this time 15 years ago, nobody would have imagined the Nigerian
music industry to be what it is today. No one would have even envisaged this kind
of future for the industry. Now the big question is WHAT REALLY HAPPENED? HOW
DID WE GET HERE?
It took hard work, it took courage, it took
creativity, it took time, and it took energy. Those you see at the top now,
those you see as the rulers. They didn’t do what others have been doing. They
didn’t follow the culture. The burst out in their own colours. They did their
own thing the way they wanted to. They enjoyed what they did. They had fun
while becoming the best. They didn’t start it because of the money. As a matter
of fact if money is your motivation, then you should begin to have a rethink of
motives.
Look, the thing is, nothing is ever easy.
Nothing was made to be easy. As a matter of fact, music is one of the most
difficult things to do and to take as a profession, is music. Another difficult
thing I know is trying to be unique and staying unique. Trying to stand out and
being your own self. But people have been making it. People have taken the
world by their kind of music. People have brought the world to a stand still by
just being unique. So why can you?
Be crazy. Be limitless. Be dogged. Be
determined. You can do it because you have it in you. Right from the first day
you decided to do it, you took your first step of victory. Just keep trying,
don’t give up and you will get to the top. You are the best!!!
