Aggressive Rise Of Anti-Immigration In Zambia

Xenophobia has been on the rise in Zambia. The Southern part of African Nation has experienced fresh attacks from what seems like a warm in certain mentalities. About six citizens were killed in Lusaka, the capital city of Zambia. It did not take place in the absence of riots and looting sprees of most foreign-owned establishments, shops and markets. It was seen as an attack against foreigners and they were forced to flee their homes for the sake of their lives. Hospitals, Churches and other spare safe places became their source of refuge. This is what we describe as occasional threat to national unity.

It was also rumored that the six murdered bodies had been mutilated. They were reportedly missing hearts, ears and other spectacular parts of their body system like their genitals. This has tried to convince many readers that the killings were for ritual purposes; and a kind of killing that drives purpose from using their body parts for sorcery. This kind of killing is not unusual in so many countries, especially countries with albinos;they are always targets for the need of their body parts. Politician, and evil-minded business men use these body parts in charms ans good luck charms. Though this nature of crime is relatively very rare in Zambia, it has recently surfaced the country with a magnitude that may mar the peace of certain citizenry. It was also reported that some arrest have been made, and in connection with foreigners, over the ritual killings.

Zambian Police spokesperson, Charity Muganga, called these reports 'False Rumors'

“No baby or human body parts were found in any fridge belonging to any foreign national. These statements are coming from people with criminal minds to create alarm among the members of the public and justify their criminality,” she said.

This is a statement but they havoc had already taken place. The big question is : If Foreign nationals can be protected in Zambia
United Nations High Commission For Refugees(UNHCR) Country Representative Ms. Laura Lo Castro showered praises on Zambia's quick response to the attack and further stated that several refugees had called on the UNHCR in fear and desperation.

“It is very concerning and sad to hear these news of violence against brothers and sisters of nearby countries. While we appreciate the efforts made so far, UNHCR is calling on the government to continue to do all it can to prevent any future incidents,” she said.
Just like what happens in other African countries, the Zambian former president, Guy Scott questioned if his country is really able to protect foreign nationals anymore.

He further blamed the violence on 'political discontent'  and citizen's needs not being met. He stressed on instances like enough access to food. This can be taken for the fact that Zambian's economy has suffered some level of stagnancy and failure of its copper trade, the collapse of its Kwacha currency, and drought.

Recent global analysis has confirmed that Zambia is among the three most hungry country in the word. But my question and greatest confusions are on whether the killings ans violence will provide food on their tables.

Though it had been recorded that Zambians welcomes African from all countries, this current development may likely soil their reputation. Please take time to share this. Condemn Xenophobia in Africa, today.
